Vijay (Tamil விஜய், Kannada ವಿಜಯ್, Sanskrit विजय) is a common given name for males in India. The word Vijay is derived from Vijaya, meaning "Victory". It is another name for Arjuna, the hero of the great Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. The word Vijay is similar in meaning to Jai, although there is a small difference. Vijay indicates being Victorious while trying to conquer, Jai indicates Victorious while trying to defend.
